Offshore Wind Development Work Experience Opportunities

Role Description

This placement involves working closely with members of the stakeholder engagement, community liaison and communications team on the proposed Spiorad na Mara offshore wind farm project off the coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. The project is in the early stages of development, conducting site surveys and developing the project concept, with the aim of submitting a planning application in 2025.

An important focus for the project is to engage with, listen to and share information with the local community as the project takes shape, together with keeping the local community and wider stakeholders informed through up-to-date and accurate communications across multiple channels.

Tasks you will be involved in:

  • Assist development of public messaging and information
  • Provide Community Liaison support (admin/note-taking etc.)
  • Assist preparation and development of public/community information materials, meetings, and activities
  • Assist preparation of materials and events for public consultation

Learning Opportunities

  • Gain an insight into the early-stage development of offshore wind projects
  • Develop an understanding of public communications, press releases, and information documents
  • Develop an understanding of liaison with communities and individuals, building strong and positive working relationships to the benefit of all parties
  • Opportunity to work with other project disciplines such as engineering, site investigation, and consents

Work Location

Office facilities are available at the UHI campus in Stornoway. There may be opportunities to visit other project offices.

Duration and Remuneration 

The placements are up to a maximum of a 12-week period, commencing in June (start date dependent on candidates’ availability) and continuing until Friday, 30th August. We welcome applications seeking full-time, part-time or flexible hours for some or all of that period. We are happy to discuss accommodating work experience around education, work or other commitments.

The salary offered for the roles is £12 per hour.
