Scholarships Programme: Application Extension 2026

Application date extended for £10,000 scholarships

Spiorad na Mara is extending the closing date for applications for its scholarships programme, giving final-year secondary school pupils from across the Outer Hebrides a further chance to secure £10,000 in support for a degree in a STEM or Gaelic language and/or culture course.

Launched in April 2025, five scholarships are available this year, with successful applicants receiving a total of £10,000 each, £2,500 every year for a four-year degree course, supporting studies in STEM and Gaelic language and/or culture in Scottish universities.

The new deadline for applications is Friday 26 June.

The programme is open to all final-year students at the four secondary schools in the Outer Hebrides: the Nicolson Institute (Lewis), Sir E Scott (Harris), Sgoil Lionacleit (Benbecula) and Sgoil Bagh a Chaisteil (Barra). It is also open to home-schooled students across the islands who are completing their final exams and applying for a relevant university course for the first time and to students from the Outer Hebrides who are currently taking a ‘gap’ year or two after completing their finals.
