Spiorad na Mara agrees to extend consultation period for Onshore Transmission Works planning application

Spiorad na Mara – a proposed offshore windfarm, located approximately 5-13km off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis – has agreed to a request from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CnES) to extend the determination period for the planning application related to the project’s Onshore Transmission Works.

As a result, the Comhairle has extended the deadline for submitting public comments to 12 August 2026, providing consultees and members of the public with additional time to review the application.

“We are committed to working constructively with local communities, stakeholders, and decision makers throughout the planning process.” said Martin Whyte, Project Director. “We have agreed to this extension to help ensure that all parties have sufficient time to review our application and provide informed feedback.”

The application and all associated documents can be viewed on the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar website, https://planning.cne-siar.gov.uk/PublicAccess/, and on the Spiorad na Mara website, www.spioradnamara.co.uk.
