Spiorad na Mara – a proposed offshore windfarm, located approximately 5-13km off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis – is inviting local businesses to attend a Supply Chain Business Breakfast on Wednesday 09 September 2026, as plans for the project continue to progress.
The event, taking place at the Caladh Inn, Stornoway, will provide businesses with the opportunity to learn more about the project, hear about the potential supply chain opportunities that could arise during its construction and operational phases, and understand how they can position themselves to compete for future contracts.
Significant progress has been made since the project’s introductory business event in 2022, making this an important opportunity for businesses to receive the latest project update and begin preparing for the next stages.
Representatives from the project team will outline the anticipated procurement programme, explain the types of opportunities that may become available and discuss the high-level standards and requirements businesses are likely to need to meet to be considered for subcontracting opportunities.
The event will also feature a panel discussion with representatives of guest organisations with expertise in offshore wind, business support and supply chain development, and there will be an opportunity to make 1-2-1 appointments with them to learn more about the practical supports available to help local companies build capability and prepare for opportunities within the renewable energy sector.
“Spiorad na Mara has progressed considerably since we last met with the local business community, and the opportunities it could create will have the potential to deliver a lasting economic legacy for the Isle of Lewis and the wider region,” said Martin Whyte, Project Director. “We are committed to ensuring local businesses have every opportunity to participate in the project, and this event is about helping them to understand what will be required as procurement activities begin. We want to start these conversations early, share information openly and listen to businesses, so that together we can maximise the local benefits the project can deliver.”
Feedback gathered during the event will help inform future engagement and identify where additional support or collaboration may be needed.
