What are the public consultations about?

Public consultation is an essential part of the development process for Spiorad na Mara. The project has committed to holding two phases of public consultation prior to the submission of its consents applications, to seek input from the public on the project’s plans as they are progressing. The first phase took place in September and October 2024 and this is the second phase.

These consultations are in addition to the programme of wider engagement which has been ongoing since the seabed area option was awarded to us by the Scottish Government in 2022 and which will continue throughout the development, construction and operations of the wind farm, if built.

We are also open to receiving feedback at any time and may be contacted using the contact details below.

Where and when will the consultations take place?

We commit to being inclusive in our consultation activities and to maximising opportunities for participation by all.

To achieve this, we will make information available online, hold in-person exhibitions and make project personnel available for small-group or individual meetings through information clinics.

Our second phase of consultation starts on Monday 2nd June, with our first in-person event being held at the Cabarfeidh Hotel, South Stornoway and the launch of an on-line consultation room which will run until Wednesday 2nd July. Further in-person events will take place around the island – full listings of the dates and venues can be found below.

The information clinics will be by appointment only, between Monday 9th June and Friday 13th June, and bookings can be made by calling Kathleen on +44 7442585935.

What will be consulted on during these events?

During this second phase of consultation, all feedback from the first consultation will have been considered in detail and taken into account, as appropriate, as our plans have progressed. The focus during this consultation will be on sharing updates on progress since Phase 1 – including details of how your earlier feedback has been considered or will be considered later – and seeking feedback on these updated plans. This phase may also include consultation on specific aspects of the project which have been further advanced since Phase 1, for example our operations and maintenance approach.
