Final-year secondary school students from across the Outer Hebrides are reminded that the closing date for receipt of applications for this year’s Spiorad na Mara Scholarships Programme is fast approaching.

Spiorad na Mara – a proposed offshore windfarm, located approximately 5-13km off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis – has today confirmed the submission of a planning consent application for the offshore elements of the project.

The final Onshore Transmission Works (OTW) Consultation for the proposed Spiorad na Mara offshore wind Project was carried out over a period of 1 month, from 24th November to 24th December 2025.

An important part of the design and development process for Spiorad na Mara includes the need to better understand the wind profile on the Isle of Lewis.

On 21st February 2024, we commenced a survey of shipping traffic movements in the area of the proposed Spiorad na Mara offshore wind project. The survey is expected to run for 14 days.

During the week commencing Monday 23 October, the project will be deploying a Floating LiDAR (FLiDAR), to collect wind resource data, within the project site area

The latest milestone to be reached in the development of Spiorad na Mara – a proposed offshore wind farm off the Isle of Lewis – sees the project issue its Scoping Report

On 17 October 2023, the project commenced marine environmental surveys within the project site area.
